Welcome to the

Liten Hobbit Stuga Flock

At Liten Hobbit Stuga, our flock is a vibrant tapestry of rare and heritage chicken breeds, each chosen to create a resilient, enchanting community that thrives in our homestead’s pastoral embrace.

From the critically endangered Shetland Hen to the prolific Gold Deathlayer, our birds bring a kaleidoscope of plumage, egg colors, and personalities to our fields.

Guided by a passion for conservation and sustainability, we’re crafting the Wiley Lane Landrace—a locally adapted population blending the hardiness of ancient landrace breeds with the productivity of autosexing varieties.

Our flock not only provides colorful eggs and hearty companionship but also preserves precious poultry genetics for future generations.

Join us in celebrating these feathered treasures at LitenHobbitStuga.com!

  • Genetic Diversity: The landrace breeds (Shetland, Swedish Flower, Icelandic) are the backbone of our project, bringing adaptability honed by centuries of natural selection. The Rare Breed Assortment may introduce additional landrace genetics, enhancing diversity.

  • Autosexing Advantage: Bielefelders and Cream Legbars simplify breeding by allowing easy sexing at hatch, streamlining our selection process for desired traits like hardiness, egg production, or temperament.

  • Hardiness and Adaptability: The inclusion of cold-hardy breeds (Shetland, Icelandic, Deathlayer, Swedish Flower) ensures our landrace can thrive in variable climates, crucial for a self-sustaining population. Marans and Bielefelders add robustness. Barnevelders and Legbars may need protection in harsh winters, which we do not encounter here on the Oregon Coast, generally.
